The Luso-American Fraternal offers numerous membership Scholarships. All applicants must….
- Be a member and policyholder in good standing for a minimum of 2 years.
- Be between the ages of 18 to 39.
Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships but only one will be awarded.

(B-1) John L. Avila Memorial Scholarship
A one-time non-renewable scholarship of $1,500
Requirements
- Graduate Student
- Must be active/participating members in their 20-30 region

(B-2) Fraternal 20-30’s Financial Aid Scholarship
A one-time non-renewable scholarship of $750
Requirements
- Graduate Student
- In need of financial aid to enter, re-enter or continue a graduate program

(B-3) Fraternal 20-30’s Financial Aid Scholarship
A one-time non-renewable scholarship for $500
Requirements
- In need of financial aid to continue working on their current degree
- Must be a 3rd or 4th year student with a declared major at a 4-year college or university OR attend a vocational school or specialty job training program.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5

(B-4) Albert and Catherine Vieira Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship for $1000
Applicants must not be a direct descendant of the donor.
Requirements
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
- Applicant must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- in need of financial aid to continue to attend a community or four-year college/university to provide for a career change.
- in need of financial aid to attend a trade/business school, vocational school program or specialty job training

(B-5) SPRSI 20/30’s College Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship. The amount may vary.
Requirements:
- Currently attending a four-year college/university

(B-6) SPRSI Re-Entry to College or Vocational School
A one-time non-renewable scholarship. The amount may vary.
Requirements:
- College career was interrupted or postponed.
- Completed 12 units and currently a four-year college/university student.

Continuing Education
The Luso-American Education Foundation (LAEF) is dedicated to helping re-entry college students succeed by awarding scholarships for continued education.

- Official Resident of the United States
- Be of Portuguese/Lusophone descent or provide proof of study in the Portuguese language/culture.
- Must meet one of the following options:
- Attending a community or four-year college/university.
- Enrolled in a Graduate Program (i.e., Masters, PhD, Credential Program).
- Be an educator in the field of Portuguese language and/or Lusophone culture.
- Preparing for a professional career where the use of the Portuguese language may be used.

(D-1) Herbert Fernandes Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship. The number of scholarships will vary.
Applicants must also meet the following Requirements:
- GPA of 3.5 or 3.0 if taking or has taken Portuguese Language courses.
- Applicants must also meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Actively involved in a Portuguese American community
- Has taken Portuguese language classes at the college level.

(D-2) Graduate Scholarship
A non-renewal scholarship; however, applicant may apply up to 4 academic years. Scholarship amount – $2,500
Applicants must also meet ONE of the following requirements:
- Be of Portuguese descent with a minimum college GPA of 3.5
- Pursuing a Graduate Degree/Credential Program in Portuguese language or culture with a minimum GPA of 3.0

(D-3) Amadeu dos Santos & Helen Rose Picado Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewal scholarship; however, applicant may apply each academic year. Scholarship amount may vary; minimum - $1,500
Applicants must not be a direct descent of the donor.
Applicant must also meet the following requirements:
- Enrolled in a Graduate/Credential Program (i.e., Masters, PhD, Credential Program
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Must be of Portuguese or Lusophone ancestry.
Applicants must also meet ONE of the following:
- Speak Portuguese with at least minimal fluency; or
- Currently taking Portuguese language classes; or
- Portuguese still spoken in home; or
- Strong identification with Portuguese or Lusophone heritage

(G-2) Portuguese Summer Language Program Grant at a University in the United States
A non-renewable grant: however, applicant may apply up to 3 academic years. Grant Amount – Up to $2,000
Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university not offering any Portuguese language or literature courses.
- Be preparing for a professional career where the use of the Portuguese language is useful.
- Working towards a BA or higher degree in Portuguese studies.

(G-3) Summer Program in Portugal
A non-renewable grant; however, applicant may apply up to 3 academic years. Grant Amount – Up to $3,000
Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university not offering any Portuguese language or literature courses.
- Be preparing for a professional career where the use of the Portuguese language is useful.
- Working towards a BA or higher degree in Portuguese studies.

(G-4) Semester Program for Study in Portugal Network (SiPN)
A non- renewal grant; however, applicant may apply up to 3 academic years. Grant Amount – Up to $3,000
Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university not offering any Portuguese language or literature courses.
- Be preparing for a professional career where the use of the Portuguese language is useful. Working towards a BA or higher degree in Portuguese studies.

(G-5) Program for Educator
Applicant may apply for up to 3 academic years. Grant Amount will vary.
Applicant must also meet the following requirements:
- Be an educator of the Portuguese language and/or Lusophone cultures.

(G-6) Life -Long Learning
Applicant may apply up to 3 academic years. Grant Amount will vary.
Note: Applicants preparing for a professional career where Portuguese language will be used, will receive priority.

Youth Scholarships
All applicants must be...
- Currently a high school senior.
- Applying to enroll in a Junior or 4-year college or university, or a Trade or Business School
- Official Resident of the United States

(E-1) General Youth Scholarship
Amount of Scholarship varies.
- $6,000 – Scholarship is distributed in 4 yearly installments of $1,500 each year
- $3,000 – Scholarship is distributed in 2 yearly installments of $1,500 each year
- $1,000 – Scholarship is disbursed (in total) in 1st year
Requirements:
- Be of Portuguese ancestry with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or;
- Has taken Portuguese language at the High School level for at least 2 years and a minimum GPA of 3.0 or;
- Attended the Luso-American Education Foundation Cultural Youth Summer Camp for a minimum of 2 years, with a minimum GPA of 3.0

(E-2) Nicole Marie Goulart Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewal scholarship. The number of scholarships will vary.
Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant, niece, nephew, sibling, or 1st cousin of the donor.
- Be of Portuguese ancestry with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Applicants are planning on majoring in ONE of the following fields:
- Medical;
- Educational;
- Business or
- Law

(F-1) TOP Fraternal Youth Membership Scholarship
Up to $8,000 At least 1 awardee per year, with the flexibility of a maximum of 3 scholarships per year, which are to be paid out over the course of four years.
Requirements:
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
- Applicant must have significant involvement at the state level of Luso-American Fraternal and in a Luso-American Fraternal Youth Council
- Applicants must be a member of a West Coast Youth Council

(F-2) Fraternal Youth Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship ranging from $750 to $2,500.
Requirements:
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Applicant must have an active policy that is in good standing with Luso-American Financial.
- Applicant must be active in Luso-American Fraternal.

(F-3) Joaquim Pereira Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship for $1,000
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
- Active youth member in a Youth Council.
- Member of West Coast Luso Council

(F-4) Tony & Alice Mattos Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship for $1,000.
Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant, niece, nephew, sibling, or 1st cousin of the donor.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Active youth member in a Youth Council.
- Resident of Sacramento or East Bay (CA) area.
- Excelled in a sport during their four years in high school

(F-5) Frank Dias Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship for $1,000.
Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant, niece, nephew, sibling, or 1st cousin of the donor.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Active youth member in a Youth Council.
- Resident of Northern California.

(F-6) Ryan “Munchie” Taylor Memorial Scholarship
A non-renewable scholarship for a $1,000
Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant, niece, nephew, sibling, or 1st cousin of the donor.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- Held a local or State Youth Officer position and performed in the Youth Theatrical Program.
- Applicant must be a member of Youth Council #24 Northern San Joaquin Valley.

(F-7) Shannon Sequeira Memorial Scholarship

Requirements: Applicant must not be a direct descendant, niece, nephew, sibling, or 1st cousin of the donor.
